I walked past the ArtPeople gallery downtown that had beautiful, vivid paintings that were moving and swirling. I hadn’t drank any mushroom tea that day so I walked inside to figure out what was what.
Inside I met Meamar who told me, “I’ve been working on this new technique called Meamorphism. I paint layers upon layers of paint over my canvas, which is a big screen LED tv, and leave certain spots open so you can play things on the television behind it.
That way you have a live painting with a constantly changing background. Or if you really like one of the backgrounds you just pause the tv and now it’s a painting just like any other painting. This is the 21st century though and this is the next step in painting. All the other art forms evolve with the times, why not painting? There is so much competing for your attention these days, you’ve got to engage people’s senses on a deeper, more comprehensive level.”
