“Whoa! That’s an awesome bow-tie!

"Thanks.”

“Mind if I take your picture?”

“Sure.”

“Cool, what are you getting into tonight?”

“I’m about to go home, get in my pajamas, and drink some tea.”

“That sounds pretty awesome. I love tea, loose leaf chinese style tea ceremony is my thing.”

“Yeah, this tea I just got from Rainbow is Scottish. It’s like English Breakfast but a little different.”

“Right on. So what do you like to do in the city?”

“Well I’m a writer, and I make comics too.”

“I just got back into graphic novels. I was in Booksmith and I saw Blue is the Warmest Color-”

“They have that?! It used to be only in French but it just got translated.”

“Yeah, and I guess it’s been made into a film that won Cannes this year. I read it and I was really into it. I want to make my own graphic novel for a film I’m writing.”

“Graphic novels are so much work.”

“But what else are you gonna do?”

“That’s true, what else can you do except get in your pajamas, drink tea and write. You should check out Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. It’s this woman’s account of growing up in her with her father, who was closeted, in a funeral home, she’s amazing.”

“What about your stuff?”

“My stuff’s not published. I’ve been working on a graphic novel and a memoir. Right now I’m doing more writing than drawing. I’ve got 23,000 words for the memoir so far. I showed it to a friend of mine, who’s also an editor, to read it to get an outside opinion, because I’m too close to it to know if it’s good, and she said ‘Yes, this is really good but write 4 times as much.’ So here I go.

"Very cool.”

“I made this bow tie too.”

“Sweet. Bow tie maker, comic artist, writer. I like it. I look forward to reading the memoir when it’s published.”

“Thank you, I’m sure it will get published actually.”

“Well congratualtions!”

“In advance.”

“RIght on! Peace.”
