After the Rising Appalachia show yesterday I was giving Leah Song one of my Souls of San Francisco books and also wearing my Souls hoodie and this guy said, “You’re not the guy who does Souls of San Francisco are you?”

“Yeah, I am.”

“Really? You take all the pictures and write the stories?”

“Yep, that’s me.”

“Oh man, I love your project. I found it on facebook and it’s really special.”

“Thank you so much.”

“To be honest, I thought you were a woman. Everything on your page is so sensitive.”

“Thank you for saying that. I really appreciate it. Wanna be part of the project?”

“For real?”

“Yeah, what’s your story?”

“Well, I’m in flux right now. I just moved out of my exes place and I’m figuring it out all out right now.”

“When’d you break up?”

“Well things weren’t going well for awhile and Burning Man was when it all really hit me that it was time for a new start. You ever been?”

“Not yet. Planning on it at some point.”

“You’d love it, because you like people and you’re fascinated with people.”

“Yep, so what’s next for you?”

“Finding a house, finding community, being part of a community…just being open. I don’t really know. Finding love, being in love. That’s my next project: keeping a clear state of mind and an open heart.”

“Amen.”

“Yeah, that’ll take me to places I’m sure. Where ever I really need to be…so I choose that.”
