“How long you lived in the city?”

“Since about ‘65. I moved from New York, by way of New Mexico, by way of South America.”

“What were you traveling for?”

“I wanted to see the world. I just like getting out of this place.”

“San Francisco or the United States?”

“San Francisco is all right, but the United States in general…nowadays I call it a minimum security nuthouse. There’s a lot going on here. I wish we had more fighters now. We lost King, we lost Malcolm. You’re young, what do you think?”

“I think it’s important to pay attention. People are going to extremes, one way or the other. There are people who don’t really know what’s going on because they numb themselves with GMO food and bad television.”

“Yeah TV, the media does a lot of numbers. People act like we’re in a post racial society, what world are they in?”

“You don’t think we live in a post racial society?”

“Hell no! Racism still exists, just sometimes more covered up, that’s all. I’m not saying there hasn’t been progress made. You wanna go back to the 19th century, or early 20th century…yeah, it’s better than that. But look at the prison population, we’ve got the largest prison population in the world. They used to call Russia the ‘prison house of nations’, now they’ve gotta call this country that. And most of those people in there are there for minor shit, but it’s all race driven. You can also look at who has jobs, and who has what type of jobs. It’s not just race, poor whites don’t have jobs either. Martin King understood the intersection of class and race. In the olden days a CEO would make 300 times what an average worker makes, now it’s 3000 times the average workers salary.”

“I hear you, we have a lot to do.”

“Yeah, well it was good talking to you…what’d you say your name was again?”

“Garry.”

“You’re not with the NSA are you? Just kidding, they’ve already got our information.”
