I walked up to this guy in park while he playing his hang. I sat down and he played some songs for me. He said, “I’m enjoying the last days of my journey here in Berlin. I’m headed back to Hamburg in a couple of days. I was in several places, most recently India. And culture is everywhere but India is crazy. So many good memories, and so many bad memories. And now I just need to sit and be for awhile.”
Then he played awhile more. Then I asked him, “Did you take lessons to learn to play that?”
“No, I don’t like people to send me in one direction. I like figure it out for myself. When I was just in India I took some direction in yoga, but very minor. I really just did my own thing. I learned that the key is, stretch however you want, just to the point of discomfort, and then breath into the pain. I was really flexible, I should get back into that, but then there were these spanish girls and then I didn’t do so much yoga.”
Then he played some more, it seemed easier for him to communicate through the music. He gave me some recommendations of things to check out in Berlin, I thanked him and said, “Alright, I’m going to wander on.”
“Ok my friend, stay healthy, you never know how much time you have.”
“Well we have forever right?”
“I’m not sure about that, I’m going to enjoy my life in this body, and the rest I’ll wait and see.”
