“It’s good to acknowledge spirituality. The idea of life being sacred, precious, and fleeting. That’s been really brought back to me living here, everyone here is finite, but we don’t ever discuss it. When someone passes they just clean their room and act like nothing happened. When I was at my last place they would put up a red rose every time someone died as a gentle reminder that we’re all human, we’re all just passing through. Being reminded of the human condition breeds respect. Life is a privilege.”
“And you mentioned you thought your time was almost up? How do you feel about dying?”
“I don’t understand it, I think it’s a big mystery, but I don’t think it’s that bad because life hasn’t been that bad. I’m not afraid because it’s the way things go. They’re talking about string theory, but nobody really knows. I’ve often thought if I could turn into a feeling I’d like to be, maybe it’d be a gentle April rain. Moist and pervasive, and don’t do any harm.”
