“I’m a social justice activist and I live in Berkeley. I was able to get appointed to the peace and justice committee where we advise city council on laws and acts to adopt based on findings through the perspective of social justice. There’s lots of problems going on in Berkeley. There’s gaps in education. The racial disparity in Berkeley is disgusting. There’s a black exodus. It’s gone from 30% to 7%. The homeless rate has gone down, except for African Americans, and for them it’s gone up. I’m trying to figure out creative solutions to fix this. The NAACP has even made suggestions, but they’re just suggestions and the city doesn’t have to follow them. We’re just volunteering but we’re trying to turn those recommendations into something the city will adopt.”
“I’m really inspired by trying to create fashionable looks by buying locally. All of this stuff is from the Ashby flea market and local stores.”
