“Are you guys a couple?”
Her – “Brother and sister.”
“Is one of you visiting?”
Him – “I am. I go to Rice University. I study flute performance.”
“You can major in flute performance?”
Him – “Yeah, I did my undergrad at Julliard, and now I’m doing my masters degree.”
“You must be a pretty dope flute player.”
Her – “He’s incredible!”
“How’d you get into playing?”
Him – “I started with piano when I was 3, took lessons with my grandma. I actually started with trumpet, but I had braces and it didn’t work out because it was too painful, so I switched to flute.”
“Sounds like you’re on your way to becoming a professional flutist!”
Her – “I hope he gets into the San Francisco symphony so he could move here.”
Him – “She just moved here a couple weeks ago.”
“Really? From where?”
Her – “Seattle.”
“Whaddya do here?”
Her – “I just got a job dancing with the Alonzo King LINES Ballet.”
“Right on, artistic family. What’s your dream for your time in San Francisco?”
Her – “Just to find our who I am as a person. I wanna meet a lot of awesome people in the city and find joy. But a deeper joy than just having fun. Like really passionately doing what I love and loving the people around me.”
