The good part is that the young millennials who are powering these transitions are utilitarian in how they look at life. They make their decisions based on merit instead of race. And yeah, there may be a ceiling in there somewhere, but it’s not nearly as low as it was 10 years ago.”
“If you go in with your set paradigm and try to lay it down on them, they’re going to be resistant. But if you go in and let them run the game, and you know what you trying to do in the endgame, then you’re gonna be alright. That’s how you have to play it if you’re not in a position of power, and having this hue of skin definitely takes me out of the power position. It ain’t to say I can’t get to the power position, but my route is more circuitous. We were given different tools from the jump. They’re using screwdrivers to screw in the screws and they gave us wrenches. By the time we done stripped the bolt and say, ‘Damn, I need a screwdriver, they’ve got a power tool’.”
