Her – “We both went to Stanford, neither of us knew about each other, he’s two years older than me, we were both making music but working on separate projects. After both landing in San Francisco after college, our respective music projects ended and we were looking for new people to make music with. We had a mutual friend who introduced us and it was kind of like a musical blind date. I found myself in his studio one day not knowing what to expect at all and we jammed out and made our first song in like an hour. From that point on we just kept making music. Getting to know a new bandmate is like getting to know a new lover, you’re trying to figure out all of their ins and out, the way they respond to criticism, and your creative whims.”
Him – “It’s always unnerving to be vulnerable in front of anyone, especially when it’s with art, something that’s so deeply personal and expressive. To be able to share that with somebody has always been a big challenge. When we met-“
Her – “I think we both had a healthy dose of skepticism about it.”
“Why was that?”
Her – “I had tried a few projects leading up to Cathedrals and the chemistry just wasn’t there. You have to have this mystical gelling of two people. Some strange intangible thing.”
