“How do you select artists to be a part of the Noise Pop?”
“As the term indie has changed it’s allowed us to expand our tastes. Everyone in our office listens to everything from country music to hip hop. Our bread and butter is still noise pop, like Sleigh Bells, but we’re able to branch out and book bands that we love.”
“Who’s the artist you’re most excited to see at this year’s festival?”
“I think Grouper at Swedish American Hall. She plays piano and it’s almost ambient the way she plays. There’s a lot of reverb and it’s very gentle, almost lullaby-ish, but it’s super dark. It’s this compelling of this simple melody that’s hauntingly beautiful and these minor keys that make it uncomfortable. It’s not easy listening but when you get into, and into the right meditative state, it’s transcendent.”
