“My father has been in and out of jail since I was 8, I’m turning 21 in a few days. As a child people would ask, ‘Where’s your dad?’ and I would just say ‘I don’t know’. There’s a little hole in your chest that can’t be filled with anything.”

“My friend Gina, being around Gina is like being around sunflowers and cotton candy, she has a big smile and it makes you want to talk to her about everything. She runs the Essie Justice Group. They connect women with incarcerated loved ones. Being with the other woman makes coping with these issues a lot easier. They teach people self-health, financial stability through crisis, and there’s group counseling. Now I know my self worth.”
